Education

Colleen is a graduate of the Sault College Early Childhood Education program and a certified Early Childhood Educator from the Association of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario.
She earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University, through their distance education program while employed as an Early Childhood Educator.

Employment Experience

Upon graduation from the Sault College E.C.E. program, Colleen was hired as an Early Childhood Educator at the Sault College Lab School, the Child Development Centre. 

She worked within a team of other early years professionals planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for children aged 18 months to 5 years setting. 

Colleen's eighteen years of experience in this setting provided the opportunity to develop her skills and knowledge base of Developmentally Appropriate practices, as well as, emergent-based curriculum, and most especially hands on experience in implementing project work and documentation within the program. She also supervised and evaluated students as their mentor during their field placement at the Child Development Centre.

Professional Development

Throughout Colleen's career, she has facilitated several workshops for the E.C.E. students, early years professionals, as well as the general community on alternative storytelling, documentation practices, project work, and unlocking creative potential.

Special training that Colleen has taken part in that contributes to her expertise in the field:

  • Project Approach with Dr. Sylvia Chard (workshop)
  • Functional Assessment (workshop)
  •  Constructive Conflict Management Skills for Leaders (workshop)

Colleen is an active member and past executive member of the Algoma branch of the Association of Early Childhood Educator's of Ontario.
